How to Pair a Mooncake with a Drink

A baked mooncake with a salted egg yolk brings fat, salt and a long, sweet lotus paste all at once, so it wants a drink with enough weight to sit next to it. An aged blended Scotch or a cognac carry the dried fruit, caramel and oak notes that meet that richness, and cut through the paste cleanly on the finish.

Snow skin changes the job. Its chilled, springy texture and sharper fruit or durian filling ask for something cold and a little sweet in return, which is why a chilled sparkling wine or a fruity umeshu works so well, refreshing the palate between bites. Durian needs a drink that will not compete with its own sweetness, so umeshu tends to outperform anything tannic.

Chocolate and nut mooncakes are closer to dessert, so treat them like one: an Irish cream or a sherried malt both play into the cocoa and roasted-nut notes without clashing. For the reduced-sugar lines several hotels are leaning into this year, a lighter highball keeps the pairing from feeling heavy, since the mooncake is already doing less of the sweetening work. InterContinental KL Turns Pistachio and Avocado into Moonlight Jewels

Tao Chinese Cuisine’s 2026 collection is Moonlight Jewels: Radiance (pink vanity case, cherry blossom detailing), Bloom (turquoise, floral and gold accents) and Celestial (gold and earthy tones, returning from last year). Pieces run RM45 to RM47 baked and RM48 to RM63 snow skin, gift sets from RM146 on the Early Bird, 20% off from 15 July to 9 August 2026, then Special Privileges rates to 25 September.

The three tiers work like this: Radiance takes any four baked plus snow skin pieces, Bloom takes any four except Musang King and Bird Nest, and Celestial takes any four baked. Bloom opens at RM194 on the early bird and Celestial at RM146, every box enters the Mid-Autumn Lucky Draw with a Shanghai Wonderland trip as the grand prize, and orders of ten boxes or more get a bulk discount.

Two flavours worth knowing: the new Pandan Skin Avocado Lava Pistachio with Mixed Nuts, and a snow skin Black Sesame with Salted Egg Yolk Cream. Order at the InterContinental KL online shop. For the pistachio piece, reach for Chivas Regal 12 (RM140), whose honeyed, nutty profile sits alongside the mixed nuts without overpowering the pandan skin. From jeweled vanity cases, the next stop is Mandarin Oriental, where celadon green boxes carry Musang King and chocolate.

Mandarin Oriental’s 2026 range splits into Timeless Tradition, Snow Skin and Artisanal Chocolate, packaged in celadon green with native flora and hornbill illustrations. The Artisanal Chocolate line runs Dulcey Caramel-Peanut, Pistachio Kataifi, Mango-Passion Fruit Rice Crispy and a new Hazelnut-Fig inspired by the hornbill diet, while bespoke four piece and eight piece boxes run RM268 and RM338 excluding Musang King. You can order through the Cake Shop e-shop or the Cake Shop counter at +603 2330 8797, and the celadon green boxes carry hornbill and rainforest motifs throughout.

Flavours include lotus paste with salted egg yolk (Timeless Tradition, baked) and Musang King durian (Snow Skin). Order via the Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop e-shop. For the durian piece, pour Hennessy VSOP (RM266), whose dried-fruit warmth gives the durian something to lean on rather than a fight. From celadon green, head across town to One World, where lighter mung bean skins keep things classic.

One World Hotel Keeps Echoes of the Earth Classic

One World Hotel Petaling Jaya’s Echoes of the Earth splits into Blossom at RM218 nett per box (four premium Maruchi mooncakes) and Continuum at RM128 nett per box (four baked), available now until 26 September 2026.

Blossom uses a lighter 110g Maruchi mung bean skin across White Lotus Golden Yolk, Pure Lotus Kaya Lava, Purple Sweet Potato Salted Mung Bean and Dragon Fruit Black Sesame Mochi, while Continuum gives 180g baked pieces where you pick any four including Supreme Mixed Nuts. ParkRoyal Collection Kuala Lumpur’s 2026 Mid-Autumn Collection Mooncakes starts with Essence of Tradition at MYR238 nett (four baked pieces plus Chinese tea), running up to the Sip and Savour with Wine paired set at MYR988 nett. Available 1 July to 30 September 2026.

Above Essence sits the Premium COLLECTION at RM248 nett with White Lotus Purple Sweet Potato, Green Tea Red Bean in a matcha skin and Rose Flower in a rose skin, still with tea. The drink pair boxes run RM628 for one wine box and RM688 for two with Moscato d’Asti or Kanonkop Kadette, while the Hennessy VSOP box runs RM988 and loose pieces go at RM36 each. Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s 2026 collection carries peony and ancient coin motifs, showcased with Malaysian fashion house Rizman Ruzaini. Single pieces run RM30 (Black Sesame and Nutella, Matcha Strawberry) to RM68 (Musang King); gift sets run RM318 (Snowskin Collection) to RM528 (Golden Musang King Collection). The full baked list runs nine deep, adding Double Yolk, Assorted Nuts with Sun-dried Fruits, Yuzu Bird Nest, Custard Lava and Red Bean with 40-Year Tangerine Peel to the new Toffee Butterscotch. Set wise, Moonlit Blossom lets you pick four baked from RM43 per piece, Crimson Treasures and Imperial Bloom sit at RM358, Lunar Fortune gives eight pieces at RM488 and the Mini Baked set of eight runs RM338. New this year: Toffee Butterscotch and Matcha Strawberry, alongside the returning Musang King and Bird Nest and Coconut snow skin. Order via the Shangri-La Boutique. For the matcha strawberry piece, Glenmorangie X Highland Single Malt (RM180) has enough citrus lift to sit next to the strawberry without turning the plate sweet. Sheraton Petaling Jaya Locks Memories into Luna Radiance

YUE, Sheraton Petaling Jaya’s signature Cantonese restaurant, calls its 2026 collection Luna Radiance, themed around a crystal padlock in Sky Blue, Neon Orange, Pearl-Maroon and Rosewood Red boxes. Early bird sets started from RM138 nett, standard pricing from RM158 nett, with a set price of RM168.00 nett also confirmed. Booths run at the hotel lobby (27 July to 25 September) and Mid Valley Megamall (4 to 25 September).

Premium baked adds Black Truffle Lotus with Single Yolk beside White Lotus Single Yolk, and the snow skin line closes with Raspberry Lychee Rose. Each leatherette keepsake box with its crystal cut lock comes with a paper bag plus two RM50 vouchers, and the YUE Premium six piece trunk lists at RM301.88. Classic Baked uses reduced-sugar recipes: Pure Lotus Paste, Red Bean Paste, White Lotus Paste with Single Yolk. Snow skin brings Durian Matcha Mania, Cherry Yuzu Bliss and Passion Jackfruit. Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara’s Maison of Mid-Autumn Elegance offers two boxes, Golden Reverie (matching cocktail fork and knife set) and Autumn Harmony, available 4 July to 25 September 2026, 25% Early Bird to 8 August. Box prices are not published, so check the hotel directly for this year’s exact price before ordering.

Baked pieces run RM42 each and snow skin RM45 each, with Mango Cream Cheese, Matcha Red Bean, Pandan Custard and Black Sesame Cheese beside Musang King Durian, plus Pumpkin Lotus Mung Bean, Black Sesame Mochi and Mixed Nuts. Golden Reverie runs RM268 for four baked, RM288 for four snow skin and RM368 for four durian, while Autumn Harmony runs RM178, RM198 and RM328 across the same three picks, and corporate branding is available on request. The St Regis Builds a Jade Keepsake Trunk

The St Regis Kuala Lumpur’s 2026 collection, The Jade Archive: At Moonrise, is inspired by Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit, priced from MYR338 nett per trunk. Trunk pricing runs from RM255.09 (Classic, four Lotus Seed Paste Single Yolk mooncakes plus Da Hong Pao tea and two teacups) to RM745.66 (Luxury, limited-edition teacups and a removable tea tray). Available until 7 October 2026, 20% early-bird for orders confirmed by 15 August.

The mooncakes stay classic with Lotus Seed and Single Yolk, crowned by a 6.5 inch Super Mooncake with eight yolks in the Super Trunk. The Luxury trunk adds limited edition tea cups plus a removable tea tray, and a Macallan Rare Cask pairing option pours alongside five year Da Hong Pao tea. Crowne Plaza KL is the one Part 1 name with no 2026 collection found at press time, so it sits out of the table above. With the old favourites placed, here is what is new: boozy boxes, low sugar lines and keepsake packaging built to be kept.

Three trends run across the 2026 collections. First, Musang King durian carries a wide price spread, from RM68 at both Shangri-La and Mandarin Oriental up to RM89 at Four Seasons. Second, reduced and low-sugar lines are stated outright: Sheraton’s Luna Radiance is built on reduced-sugar recipes, and EQ Kuala Lumpur names a Low Sugar White Lotus Single Yolk piece. Third, keepsake packaging designed for reuse is everywhere, from Mandarin Oriental’s hand-painted tiffin (only 150 sets, MYR688) to the St Regis jade trunks and InterContinental’s vanity-style cases.
