About Jack Daniel’s

Jack Daniel’s traces its story to Jasper Newton “Jack” Daniel, who registered his distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee in 1866. What makes it a Tennessee whiskey rather than a bourbon is the extra step known as charcoal mellowing, also called the Lincoln County Process: before barrelling, the new-make spirit is filtered drop by drop through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal. The brand is owned today by Brown-Forman, and you can explore the full story on the official Jack Daniel’s website.

Jack Daniel’s is made at the Lynchburg distillery, using iron-free spring water from Cave Spring Hollow. The Bonded expression follows the American Bottled-in-Bond standard set out in the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. Curious how the spelling and the label differ between whisky and whiskey? Our whisky vs whiskey label guide explains it.

Jack Daniel’s Range and Prices in Malaysia

Below are the Jack Daniel’s expressions we carry, with price ranges drawn from live prices in our store. Prices correct at time of writing, subject to change.

The range falls into three groups. The core bottles are Old No.7, Gentleman Jack and Bonded. Old No.7, Gentleman Jack, Tennessee Honey and the Paula Scher edition are listed at 40% ABV on their product pages, and Bonded at 50% ABV. The flavoured trio, Tennessee Fire, Apple and Honey, are flavoured Tennessee whisky: Fire has a cinnamon note, Apple a crisp apple note and Honey is Old No.7 blended with honey liqueur. The Paula Scher edition and the Single Barrel Select are the gifting and collector bottles.

Most expressions come in 700ml and 1000ml. Where only one size is in stock the table shows a From price, and sizes that are out of stock are named but not linked.

Jack Daniel’s Comparison: Which Bottle Should You Buy?

Most buyers are choosing between the classic Old No.7, a flavoured expression, or one of the premium bottlings. Here is how they line up.

ExpressionPriceCharacterBest For
Old No.7RM126-146The classic: caramel, vanilla and light oak, charcoal-mellowedEveryday drinking, Jack and cola, a first bottle
Tennessee FireFrom RM150Flavoured Old No.7 with a cinnamon note and a warming finishParty shots, chilled pours
Tennessee AppleRM133-153Flavoured Tennessee whisky with a crisp apple noteEasy highballs, newer whiskey drinkers
Tennessee HoneyFrom RM153Old No.7 blended with honey liqueur, rounded and sweetAfter-dinner pours, guests with a sweet tooth
BondedRM156-183Bottled-in-Bond at 50% ABV, deeper oak and darker caramelSlow sipping, whiskey enthusiasts
Gentleman JackFrom RM180Charcoal-mellowed twice, extra smooth and polishedGifting, smooth neat pours
Paula ScherFrom RM165The classic Old No.7 in an designer-edition bottleCollectors, design-minded gifts
Single Barrel SelectFrom RM221Chosen barrel by barrel, with toasted oak, spice and depthCollectors, milestone gifts, serious tasting

The differences that matter most come down to strength and selection. Old No.7 is the baseline at 40% ABV. Bonded steps up to 50% ABV, and its product page describes a minimum of four years in new charred oak in a federally bonded warehouse, which is where the extra oak and spice come from. Gentleman Jack is charcoal-mellowed twice, once before barrelling and again after maturation, so it drinks smoother than Old No.7 at the same 40% ABV. Single Barrel Select is chosen barrel by barrel instead of being vatted from many, so each bottle carries its own small variation.

Three further bottles, the Straight Rye (700ml), the McLaren X JD Limited Edition (1000ml) and the Tennessee Fire 700ml, are out of stock right now, so we have not linked them. Message us on WhatsApp if you are hunting for one: https://wa.me/60169562840.

Jack Daniel’s Tasting Notes

These notes cover the three core bottles in the range, laid out the way we pour them: neat first, then with ice or a mixer if you prefer. Gentleman Jack and the flavoured expressions are covered in the comparison above and the buying guide below.

Jack Daniel’s Old No.7

Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 is the house original, a Tennessee whiskey filtered drop by drop through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal before it ever touches oak. It is the bottle most people picture when they say Jack Daniel’s, and the easiest way into the range.

Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 Tennessee Whisky [1000ML]

It drinks light-to-medium and smooth, which is why it works neat, on the rocks or in a tall Jack and cola. We carry it in two sizes, Old No.7 700ml and Old No.7 1000ml, and the litre is the better pick if you pour regularly.

Nose: Sweet caramel and vanilla up front, with a soft banana note and a whisper of toasted oak. Friendly and instantly recognisable.

Palate: Light-to-medium body, smooth from the charcoal mellowing, with brown sugar, vanilla, and a gentle grain sweetness. Nothing sharp, nothing aggressive.

Finish: Clean and warming, with lingering caramel and a dry oak tail. Built to work neat, on ice, or in a tall Jack and cola.

Jack Daniel’s Bonded

Jack Daniel’s Bonded is the Old No.7 recipe bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof) under the American Bottled-in-Bond standard. Its product page describes a minimum of four years in new charred oak barrels, in a federally bonded warehouse. The result trades some of Old No.7’s easy sweetness for deeper oak, darker caramel and more spice.

Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whisky [700ML]

It suits whiskey drinkers who want more weight in the glass, and it is best sipped neat, over one large cube or in an Old Fashioned. Choose between Bonded 700ml and Bonded 1000ml depending on how often you pour.

Nose: Richer and darker than Old No.7: layered caramel, baking spice, and charred oak, with the higher strength lifting the aromas.

Palate: Full-bodied at 50% ABV, with deep toffee, dark fruit, and a peppery oak spice that gives it real presence.

Finish: Long and toasty, with oak char and spice fading slowly. Excellent neat or with a single large cube.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select is chosen barrel by barrel rather than vatted from many, and it is matured on the upper levels of the warehouse, where temperature swings are wider. Because every bottle comes from a single barrel, each one carries its own subtle variation.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select Tennessee Whisky [Metal Cage] [700ML]

It is among the more complex pours in the standard range and a natural statement gift, supplied in a metal cage. If you are choosing between this and Bonded, the question is character: Bonded is about strength and oak, while this is about the individual barrel. See Single Barrel Select 700ml in the metal cage for the current listing.

Nose: Bold toasted oak, vanilla bean, and caramelised sugar, with each barrel lending its own subtle variation.

Palate: Rich and rounded, with dark caramel, roasted nuts, baking spice, and a robust oak backbone from barrels aged in the upper reaches of the barrelhouse.

Finish: Long, warm, and spicy, with toasted oak persisting well after the sip. Among the more complex pours in the standard Jack Daniel’s range.

How to Choose the Right Jack Daniel’s

For everyday drinking or mixing: start with Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 700ml. Jack and cola, whiskey ginger or simply on the rocks, it does everything well, and the whole Old No.7 line sits at RM126-146.

For parties and easy drinking: the flavoured trio is built for this, at RM133-153. Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire 1000ml suits chilled shots, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple 700ml makes bright highballs, and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey 1000ml is for guests who prefer their whiskey on the sweet side.

For gifting: Jack Daniel’s Gentleman Jack 1000ml is the polished choice, charcoal-mellowed twice for extra smoothness. For a collector’s gift, Jack Daniel’s Paula Scher 700ml is the classic Old No.7 in an designer-edition bottle, and the Single Barrel Select is the highest-priced bottle in our current range.

For the whiskey enthusiast: Bonded, at RM156-183, is the one to try, bottled at 50% ABV under the American Bottled-in-Bond standard. Boleh tahan, especially neat.
